All parents are encouraged to participate in Parent Council. Parents Council meets regularly to coordinate several fundraising and educational events each year. Through Fall Festival, pizza lunches, and Original Works, funds are raised to support Shakespeare Week, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Lunch, Read Across America Day, and Field Day. Parent Council organizes discussions and forums on topics of interest. They also coordinate room parents.
Parents are called on to drive to field trips, to read in the classroom, and to share their areas of expertise in classes or at assembly.Parent volunteers chair the Annual Fund and the Scholarship Auction. Buddy Families help new families get acquainted. On Family Work Days, parents, students, teachers, and trustees join together to paint, spread mulch, and wash windows. Parents serve on our Board of Trustees, planning and acting strategically to assure the school’s future.
In response to the question, “What do you value most about Parker School for your child?” parents wrote: I value that Parker School embraces multiculturalism and student diversity.
Children are guided through new challenges and encouraged to think for
themselves. The school’s curriculum develops a well-rounded person who will be
better able to deal with the many challenges and difficulties in life.
- Parent of Pablo, class of ‘13
Parker students learn the value of wonder, and they gain the skills to explore
whatever they wonder.
- Parent of Kyrie, class of ’04 and Maya, class of ‘06
I value the responsiveness of both administration and faculty to the individual
needs of the student. There is no “putting square pegs into round holes.” This
is possible because of the size (smallness) of the school but also because of
the philosophy of the school. I also believe that Parker prepares a child for
life: with a diverse student body, with active learning, in the teaching of
health issues, and in building self-respect and confidence.
- Parent of Colin, class of ‘05
- Parent of Max, class of ‘09
We value that Parker is a truly loving environment for parents and kids. The
school fosters creativity, emotional intelligence, and a sense of community.
The staff knows every parent and child. The teachers are motivating,
progressive, and child-centered. Our son loves to come to school each day. He
feels safe, secure, and free to be the individual he continues to become.
