Parents

In 1991, a group of parents dedicated to academic excellence in a small and nurturing environment came together, and Robert C. Parker School was established. Their spirit of commitment and the partnership among faculty, staff and parents live on today in the Parker Parent Council.

The scope of Parent Council can best be summed up in two words: fun and fund-raising. The council hosts a variety of endeavors designed to enrich students’ educational experience as well as foster a strong sense of school spirit—whether an event for the whole family to enjoy, like Fall Festival, or an adult-only gala affair such as the Annual Auction.

Each year, parents choose several areas of need within the school and dedicate fund-raising efforts accordingly.  Parent Council fundraising supports Read Across America Day and Shakespeare Week.

Parental partnership is an integral part of the Parker tradition. Parent Council supports our students while working to enrich their educational experience.  Come and join us! Here are some of the many opportunities for volunteering:

Parent Council Officers – set the annual agenda; monitor funds; recruit Room Parents and volunteers; set annual funding goals; generate great ideas; make things happen!

Room Parents – help classroom teachers; coordinate food for Pot-lucks; set up and staff the class booth at Fall Festival; coordinate volunteers for Shakespeare Night.

Fund-raisers – Pizza Lunch, Original Art, Auction Gala, Plant Sales, Kudos Book Club.

Events – Fall Festival, Faculty Staff Appreciation Day, Ice Cream Sundae Bar on Field Day, and other unique annual events.

Other ways to volunteer – driving and chaperoning for field trips; Classroom Guest Readers; staffing the Scholastic Book Sale; selling used books on Read Across America Day; skiing chaperones; Camp Chingachgook chaperones; bringing unique talents and skills to assemblies and class meetings; Admission Ambassadors; library helpers.
